FAQS
Frequently Asked Questions
WHAT IS DERMAL FILLER?
Dermal Filler is made of hyaluronic acid, a gel like substance, which is naturally found in the body. Hyaluronic acid gives hydration & elasticity to our skin. As we age the hyaluronic acid in our bodies is broken down & we produce less of it. This leads to loss of skin vitality & volume, Dermal fillers made of hyaluronic acid are injected into the face or body for volume restoration, to correct lines/wrinkles & to reshape facial contours.
WHAT IS BOTULINUM TOXIN USED IN WRINKLE REDUCTION INJECTIONS
Botulinum Toxin Type A is a drug made from a toxin that is used to relax muscles & as a consequence reduce lines & wrinkles caused by muscle inactivity. The toxin gradually paralyses the muscle by blocking presynaptic release of the neurotransmitter acetylcholine causing a neuromuscular blocking effect. The full effect of the toxin on the muscles takes up to 2 weeks.
HOW LONG DO DERMAL FILLER TREATMENTS LAST?
Dermal filler treatments can last from 6-12 months & sometimes up to 18 months, depending on the area of the face or body in which the dermal filler is placed. Long term effects are also dependent on the depth of the filler placement, as well as chosen treatment. Hyaluronic acid that makes up the dermal filler is broken down naturally by the body over time.
HOW LONG DOES THE EFFECT FROM WRINKLE REDUCTION TREATMENTS LAST?
The effect from wrinkle reduction treatments lasts on average 3-4 months. Everyone responds individually & results may vary depending on strength &/or size of the facial muscles treated. Some people metabolise Botulinum Toxin quicker than others. The effect from wrinkle reduction treatments tend to increase the more times you have the treatment carried out. After having these treatments for a couple of years it may last up to 5-6 months.
DO I NEED TO BOOK A CONSULTATION BEFORE WRINKLE REDUCTION OR DERMAL FILLER TREATMENTS?
Yes, you need to be assessed for suitability for treatments. Some medical conditions or tablets/drugs may contraindicate treatments. Facial assessment is required to plan where & how much product is required. Botulinum Toxin is a prescription only medicine, as is hyaluronidase which in some cases may be used to dissolve dermal filler. Therefore both have to be prescribed by a prescriber having completed an appropriate face- to- face consultation.
WHAT SHOULDN'T I DO BEFORE MY TREATMENT APPOINTMENT?
The day before dermal filler or wrinkle reduction treatments do not drink alcohol as this increases bruising & inflammation post procedure. Avoid retinol based face products two days prior to treatment & the day of treatment. If possible attend your appointment without skin makeup on, as this will need to be removed prior to preparing the skin for treatment.
